StreetSmart is Collecting Candy for a Wicked Sweet Cause
It’s Halloween – you know what that means. Haunted houses, costumes, trick or treating, and of course, lots of candy.
Whether you’re handing out candy to trick or treaters or you’re out walking with your kids, you’ll probably end up with a ton of leftover candy at the end of the night. So what are you to do with all that extra candy?
You could eat it all within a few days, which your dentist would probably frown upon. You could also let it sit around until you decide enough is enough and finally throw it out. Or you could donate it to a worthy cause.
Operation Gratitude sends treats to our troops, and so can you
Operation Gratitude sends care packages containing food, entertainment, and hygiene items to deployed troops, first responders, veterans, and wounded warriors. Since its establishment in 2003, their volunteers have shipped more than 1,900,000 care packages worldwide.
Each year Operation Gratitude organizes their Halloween Candy Give Back program, which collects and sends leftover candy to our deployed troops and first responders. Last year they collected over 533,890 pounds of candy and they are hoping to break that record this year, and the StreetSmart community outreach program was a proud contributor.

ClickSoftware employee Cynthia Kerr brought up the idea to involve the StreetSmart Minneapolis office in the program almost three years ago. StreetSmart, a division of ClickSoftware is partnering with Operation Gratitude again this year, collecting and donating employees’ and their friend’s and family’s leftover candy.
“My brother was in the Air Force for 23 years and I know it meant a lot to him whenever he received a care package from the US. I heard about the Halloween care packages and thought it was a great way to show our troops our appreciation as well as teach my kids about giving. I’m very pleased that our StreetSmart office has embraced this program too.” – Cynthia Kerr, Engagement Manager, ClickSoftware
The Halloween Candy Give Back program will run for about a week after Halloween. If you would like to volunteer or donate to Operation Gratitude, visit their website to learn about their upcoming activities and events.
