StreetSmart Team Teaches Local High School Students About STEM Career Paths
Youthful enthusiasm filled the Mendota Heights StreetSmart office when high school students from a local after-school internship program came to learn about STEM careers. getSTEM-MN, a program offered through the Minnesota High Tech Association and in partnership with Pillsbury United Communities, helps students learn about job skills and explore career paths.

StreetSmart focuses on developing mobile apps and cloud-based solutions for businesses with field service employees. The StreetSmart team introduced the students to a variety of technical job roles available within the company. After a brief overview, the students rotated between five interactive stations to learn more about STEM careers in a software company, including:
- Engineering & Programming
- Design & Development
- Quality Assurance
- Sales & Marketing
- Implementation & Training
After the interactive session, students asked questions about StreetSmart’s technology jobs and what skills are needed for careers in STEM. The StreetSmart employees felt energized by this group of bright young students. And the students were surprised and motivated by the variety of jobs within a world-class software company.
